As the cold sets in I realized that I had not darned my favorite socks at the end of last winter. I love mending things, I love the look of well loved woollen socks and sweaters made from homespun yarn woven by hand. Darning is a way of honoring the spirit of art and handwork, it's a way of life that our ancestors understood. Everywhere I look people buy cheap things then they throw them away and repeat. Where have we gone wrong, why does China make all the things we use here, what happened to our spirit America? Buying well made things from our own communities, investing in our soil and friends, mending our broken state and darning together the frayed, hole ridden soul of a nation has never be more important.
I hope your favorite things are worth mending.
